Chapter 8

  Impossible

Questions nagged my mind all day. Was Ethan hearing my thoughts? I know he’d answered several of my unspoken questions in the past few days. It didn’t help, since I constantly asked him directly with a passed note. A twitch of a smile showed when he read this, but he didn’t answer because Mr. Willard was discussing the physics of gases. I couldn’t stop asking the question, lots of others came to my mind, and some followed with thoughts I couldn’t contain. Ethan looked handsome, relaxed and that little bit dangerous, but in a good way. He glanced at me several times, which instantly had my list run from my mind.

You can hear me, I know you can. You’re answering my thoughts. You’re reading my mind.

The longer I rambled my silent list off, his brow creased for an eighth of a second before turning away. It was no use. He wouldn’t answer anything I thought about, and by the time lunch came, I started to think it didn’t happen at all. He was just good at reading expressions; anyone could see I was upset and annoyed. I kept my veil of hair in view, I wouldn’t let anyone take notice of me, but it was no use. The A-Team held bitchy insults, the B-Team were distant; Brant lowered his gaze around me and if he saw Ethan, since he wasn’t far from me, he would look the other way, and if possible, find another path.

As the day came to an end, Ethan showed no change to his mood. Sitting with me, but not answering my thoughts. Maybe I imagined the whole thing. Wasn’t the first time someone answered my thoughts; and Ethan was just good at reading my mood.
