“I was.” True enough.
“I thought you feared he’d destroy the world!”
Leo needed to calm down. That red color couldn’t be healthy, even for an immortal. “If Josephine had died, that’s exactly what would have happened.”
Leo’s eyes widened.
Now his brother was getting it. Luke nodded approvingly. “But everything worked out in the end. Josephine will keep him sane. He will always give her the energy boost she needs so that Josephine doesn’t have to drain hapless prey.” The freedom she had always wanted. “And, bonus, turns out an angel’s power can pass through the Veil. With what Josephine knows now, I suspect the Fey will start keeping all of their memories.” Or, at least, the Fey queen would.
Leo just glared. Why wasn’t the guy celebrating? Someone just couldn’t see the big picture.
“They’ll bring order back beyond the Veil, and…” Leo gave a little shrug. “Everyone’s happy.”
“I’m not,” Merius muttered.
That much was obvious to everyone. “Yes, well, good luck with all of that.” He cleared his throat. “But at least you know where your Fey vamp is. Can’t we count that as a win for you?”
Without a word, Merius grabbed the giant mirror. He heaved it up and carried it out of the suite.
Dorrin shook his head and followed after him.
Silence.
“I hate you. You know that, right?” Leo asked.
Luke just smiled.
“How about including me in your plans sometimes? We can work together.”
Had Leo missed everything? “We just did work together.”
“I hate you,” Leo groused again. Then he sighed. A long, disgusted sound. “Merius does realize that his vampire isn’t actually inside that mirror, right?”
“Hmmm…I’m not sure about that.”
“You’re going to make me handle him, aren’t you?”
“Absolutely…” Because he had plans. His mate was waiting on him.
He needed to get back upstairs to her. Because really, it had been one hell of a day…
